Celebrating Speech Therapy Month

“Talk to Me”

People of all ages receive Speech-language therapy to help overcome disorders which limit the ability to comprehend or participate in conversations. At Reavis Rehab we focus on receptive language, the ability to understand words spoken to you, and expressive language, the ability to use words to convey a meaning.

Speech-language therapy is the treatment for most kids with speech and/or language disorders. A speech disorder refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds, whereas a language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas. Adults may need speech therapy after a stroke or traumatic accident that changes their ability to use language; for children, it generally involves pursuing milestones that have been delayed.

Our therapists find fun activities and exercises to strengthen a person’s areas of weakness within speech and concentrate on their speedy progress. In recognition of all the ways speech therapy contributes to society’s well-being, May has been designated as Speech Therapy Month.
